We just started working on patterns in math. The students know a lot about shape patterns already!
We will focus on making different patterns using shape, colour, size, sounds and symbols.
Students will create basic patterns such as AB, ABC, ABB and more complex patterns such as ABA, ABBA, ABDB, ABBA. We will work on naming patterns and extending patterns, creating patterns, telling the pattern core (the repeating part), and showing patterns in different ways. Ex. show an ABC pattern using colours, using shapes, using actions.
Letters reminding you how to log on to Raz-Kids reading program with your child's password were sent home this week. Students can read and listen to books at their just right reading level online.
As well, information about how to log onto Zorbits Math was also sent home.
Reading groups have been established and each Monday a new reading book at your child's reading level will be sent home in his/her Agenda Bag (provided the book from the previous week was returned). Try to listen to your child read this book a few times over the course of the week. Please return reading books and Library books each Friday.
*** The Grade 1s will be leading our school's Advent Mass on Thursday, December 5, at 6:30. The mass will be at St. John The Apostle Church. We will be learning special songs and student volunteers will do readings/ participate in the offertory process. A note will be sent home Friday, November 22 asking for confirmation of your child's participation for this mass. If your child is able to participate, please return the form by Tuesday, November 26th.
